Cellar FavoritesThis page spotlights wines that are favorites of myself and our epicurean guests. They are food-friendly wines of superlative quality. Many are from lesser-known, innovative winemakers from exclusive vineyards, whose small bottlings represent excellent typicity (when a wine is a natural reflection of its appellation), complexity, balance, and value.
Sparkling WineProsecco di Valdobbiadene Bele Casel NV Prosecco is the sparkling wine of Venice. The Bele Casel Prosecco is the product of selective vine growing and careful winemaking. Softly pressed Prosecco grapes, farmed to the lowest yields in the region, and careful vinification provide this fresh, aromatic, classic sparkling wine. Refreshing nuances of milk honey and white peach! Rosé WinesCoteaux d’Aix-en-Provence Château Calissanne 2006 Château Calissanne is the largest estate in the vicinity of Aix-en-Provence. Winemaker Jean Bonnet makes some of the finest wines in Provence. This eloquent rosé is a blend of equal parts Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Refreshing and food-friendly, it pairs well with the flavors of summer. Nuances of melon and nectarine with bright acidity. White WinesViré Clessé Domaine André Bonhomme 2004 André Bonhomme is one of the most highly respected growers in Burgundy. Estate grown and hand picked Chardonnay grapes. Floral, silky and well balanced it leaves a clean mineral finish that lingers on and on. Excellent with seafood, light fare, or as an apéritif. Red WinesLanghe Nebbiolo Germano Ettore 2005 An elegant, silky expression of the famed Nebbiolo grapes that are grown near the DOCG’s of Barolo and Barbaresco in Italy’s Piedmont region. This lighter-bodied Nebbiolo has delicate earthy nuances, along with the characteristic: wilted rose petals, sweet tar, orange rind, and cloves. Recommended with grilled meats, foul, mushrooms and aged cheeses. Château Gashon (Montagne St.-Emilion) 2003 This appellation rests on Bordeaux’s right bank. Age-old perfect growing conditions are enhanced in this celebrated 2003 vintage. A range of fragrances on the nose– blackberry, cherry, roasted coffee and chocolate. An elegant palate that has medium tannins and lingering fruit and spice. At its best with lamb, duck, salmon, or strong cheese. |
