The Jacob Gorgas Suite

A spacious, inviting room, named for the original owner of The 1777 House. The structure served as the shop and residence for this noted clockmaker and his family, who were also devout followers of the religious community of the Ephrata Cloister. A cozy conversation area by the green marbled fireplace (one of the original appointments of the home) calls for a quiet chat. Notice the personalized dower chest -- once a bride's chest to hold her dowry. For quiet relaxation, enjoy a soak in the Jacuzzi® by the gas fire. Queen-size bed and a private bath with shower. The Conrad Beissel Suite

This grand, handsome room pays tribute to the founder of the Ephrata Cloister, a man who shaped the history of the Ephrata community. Decorated with a 19th century bedside table in rare tiger's eye maple, an antique window bench and blanket chest, and warmed by a corner fireplace. The Father Friedsam Retreat

The Sister Anastasia Room

A member of the Ephrata Cloister sisterhood, Sister Anastasia filled the Cloister with music as overseer of the singing school. Her quiet strength is reflected in the clean, crisp stenciling and chairs detailed in crewel work. The Peter Miller Suite

A large, impressive room, named for the charismatic leader of the Cloister, successor to Conrad Beissel. Hand-painted armoires and "Swag and Tassle" stenciling create an elegant ambiance, with an antique slant-top desk for recording the day's events. The Prioress Maria Suite

One of the most influential women of the Cloister, Maria Eicher was a paradox of humility and leadership. This room is a unique blend of pattern and texture. Floral linens combine with striking geometries in deep blue with rose accents. Furnished with a vivid armoire and personalized dower chest from 1828. Brother Heinrich Chambers

A quiet cabinetmaker by trade, Brother Heinrich spent much of his life practicing the doctrine of the Ephrata Cloister. Crisp geometrics create a "Flying Geese" pattern in the hand-made quilt. Nautical hand-painted chest and 1800s candlestand table create an aura of days gone-by as you sink into the comfy wing chair and ottoman. Queen-size bed, private bath with shower, and walk-in closet. Second floor.

The Eicher Quarters

Appointed in linens of tulips and pastels. An antique quilt, now a work of art, decorates the wall in a patchwork pattern of soft hues. The seaman's chest from the turn of the century provides additional storage. As Cloister members, the Eichers lived in a cottage along the edge of the Ephrata Cloister; today the cottage holds the Eicher Indian Museum. Queen-size bed and private bath with shower with option of a private Jacuzzi® a few steps away. Third floor.

The Brother Israel's Quarters

Instrumental in the economic development of the Cloister, and later captured by the Indians, his life was of generosity and toil. The Carriage House Suites

The Brother Gideon's Loft

Exchanging his worldly name, Christian Eckstein, for Brother Gideon, he was an influential member of the brotherhood, administering the medical compounds of the apothecary. Tranquil pastels of celadon, lavender and peach are surrounded by white-washed walls to create a contemporary loft suite with Adirondack influences. The multi-level suite includes a fireplace and Jacuzzi®, dramatic high-ceiling sleeping area with queen-size bed, and sitting area with small refrigerator. Private bath with shower. Private outdoor entrance, first floor.

The Blacksmith's Loft

Darius Ruff, a blacksmith who operated a shop adjacent to the Cloister property, crafted some of the ironwork and hardware for the Cloister buildings. Unusual antiques complement a primitive mix of blue-green, mustard and spicy red. Multi-level suite includes a fireplace and Jacuzzi®, loft sitting area with sofa bed, queen-size bed, and small refrigerator. Private bath with shower. Private outdoor entrance.
